Helmut Newton Legacy

A few impressions of the Helmut Newton Legacy exhibition in Vienna.

Helmut Newton (1920-2004) is primarly known for his pictures of women. His career evolved out of fashion photography in the 1960s Paris in the charged field between the polarities of art and commerce. He began staging his models in a flamboyant style and flashy way, thus changing the view onto the sated scene of haute couture. As a consequence of this, Newton turned in the 1980s to nude photography. He challenged social and moral borderlines by showing sharply contoured models in almost belligerent nakedness flaunting a self-determined and robustly active sexuality. He still challenges us today to confront new issues and questions.

The "Helmut Newton Legacy" exhibition at the Bank Austria Kunstforum in Vienna is celebrating his 100th birthday and is still open till 15.01.2023 and worth a visit!
